College Board provides digital practice tests in Bluebook, a Student Question Bank, and links to free Khan Academy SAT lessons. Its practice and preparation hub is the starting point for current tools and access instructions.

A printed book can support learning, but it should not replace familiarity with the actual testing tools. Prices and bundled access change; confirm what is included rather than relying on an old price table.
Match your starting point to the task
- Foundations feel shaky: work on one underlying skill, such as equivalent expressions or sentence boundaries, before adding timed pressure.
- Concepts make sense but errors repeat: keep a short error log. Separate gaps in knowledge, misreading, execution and time management.
- Accuracy is strong but pacing is difficult: use a small timed set, then examine where time went. More speed is not helpful if it hides misunderstanding.
- You are close to your goal: protect sleep and a realistic schedule. Use unfamiliar questions to check whether a method transfers.
A practical week, not another pile of work
- Choose one priority: use recent work to identify a specific skill. Write it in plain language.
- Learn and explain: study a short lesson or book section, work an example and explain why each step is valid.
- Practise independently: attempt a small set without the answer explanation beside you.
- Review the reason: record what went wrong and what you will check next time.
- Return later: try a different problem after a break. Adjust the next week based on the result.
Fit the duration around school, family and activities. A full-length test should have a purpose and enough time for review afterward; taking many tests without reviewing them can leave the same problems unresolved.

Do we need to buy a prep book?
Not necessarily. Begin with the free tools above. Buy a book when you can name the gap it will address and have checked that its explanations suit your student.
Can we use an older book?
Some underlying skills remain useful, but format, timing and question style can differ. Check the edition and use current official digital practice for familiarity with the test.
When can tutoring help?
Consider support when a student cannot explain recurring mistakes, needs a clearer study sequence or benefits from feedback. Ask a tutor to explain the plan and how progress will be discussed. No particular resource or tutor can guarantee an individual score.
